Even healthy babies and children can sometimes experience digestive problems like heartburn, vomiting, gas, and tummy pain. Our board-certified pediatricians, Dr. Hebbur and Dr. Okammor, can offer their patients in Plano, TX, healthy solutions with managing symptoms before it becomes chronic acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It may be necessary to monitor what your child eats before a bout of heartburn, what time it is consumed, how much is eaten, and what other symptoms are present at the time. At Village Pediatrics, we will work with our parents and patients to find the right answers for healthy living and better digestive health.
"Dr Okammor is amazing our first visit was completely different from another doctor's office we went to. The people that work there are awesome. We love her nurse she always has laughing every time..."- V.A. / Yahoo / Feb 16, 2019
"My son has gone to Dr. Okamorr since he was 6 months old (he is now 14 years old) and at every appointment, I have always felt he is well taken care of. Dr. Okamorr has excellent bedside manners, always listens to him, and has always provided the right treatments and medicine he needs. I never struggle to make appointments, staff is friendly and kind, and the wait time isn't more than 10 minutes. I highly recommend Dr. Okamorr as your child's primary care physician. They will be in excellent hands."- E.M. / Google / Oct 05, 2020
"My daughter is age 6 and has been going to Village Pediatrics under the care of Dr. Okammor since she was an infant. We have been pleased with the service from the doctor to the nurses, and office management. My daughter has never been afraid of going to see the doctor."- D.G. / Google / Sep 18, 2020
"We were able to get an appointment the same day. We were seen by the nurse partitioner in a timely manner and she took her time with my 2 yr old son- which I really appreciated. We didn’t have insurance so we paid out of pocket which wasn’t as bad as I thought. Overall I would recommended them to my family and friends."- B.T. / Google / Sep 18, 2020

Conditions and Symptoms
HeartBurn & Acid Reflux
Of course, it is normal for babies to spit up after a bottle. However, when the baby is malnourished because he or she is not keeping the formula down, it is another story. Other symptoms a baby may present are coughing, bottle refusal, inconsolable crying at feeding time, inflamed esophagus, blood in the vomit, and weight loss or unable to gain needed weight. Infants with underdeveloped digestive systems are most likely to experience acid reflux.
Children & Teens
Your older kids and teens can also develop acid reflux at any age, and they will be able to describe the pain and what is going on with their bodies. It is our job to help figure out what the problem is, how to treat it, and keep it from coming back. Heartburn and acid reflux in older kids can generally be managed with a diet that doesn’t consist of trigger foods, not eating right before bed, eating moderate portions, and if necessary, an antacid medication.
Testing for acid reflux can range from a physical exam and questions from the doctor to more in-depth studies with an upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) study. Your pediatrician will make the recommendation on how to diagnose and treat your child’s symptoms, even if it includes a referral to a GI doctor. Commonly, pediatricians can recommend a change in diet, eating patterns, and prescribe medications like antacids.
