COVID-19 testing FAQs

As coronavirus continues to spread at a rapid pace in our community, it’s important that your family understands the resources available to your child to safely get tested for COVID-19. If you suspect your child is showing symptoms of coronavirus, act immediately by getting them scheduled for a telehealth visit with a pediatrician right away to determine whether they need to be tested for COVID-19 or not.

Here are some common questions and answers about our COVID-19 tests.

Do you offer COVID-19 testing?

Yes! We offer two different COVID-19 nasal swabs to detect an active infection. Both tests are conducted at our primary care site, Village Health Partners. One option is the anticipated rapid test and the other option is a swab we send to a lab. We also offer antibody testing.

How much does it cost to get a COVID-19 test?

Tests are billed to your child’s insurance. If your child does not have insurance, the cost would be between $40 and $50 for the rapid test, and $70 for the test that is sent to the lab.

What are the requirements to get tested for COVID-19?

All patients requesting a COVID-19 test must first be seen by a Village Pediatrics provider.

Where does my child go to get tested?

We are conducting all COVID-19 testing through Village Health Partners at a drive-up testing site at the McKinney Medical Village location in McKinney.

What can I expect on the day of my child’s COVID-19 test?

You will drive up during your child’s allocated appointment time. A medical assistant will verify your name and date of birth and will let you know where to park. Please remain in your car with all windows rolled up until it is time for your child’s test. At the time of the test, you will be handed a swab and will be given instructions on how to help your child self-administer the test.

Is there a waitlist for telehealth appointments or COVID-19 tests?

No, we do not have a waiting list for telehealth appointments. However, Village Health Partners is seeing a high demand for COVID-19 tests at this time and are making their way through getting every patient scheduled for a test.

How long does it take to receive results?

Results are available within 24 hours for the rapid test, 7 days for the send-out test, and 7 days for the antibody test.

How will I receive the results?

Your child’s results will be uploaded to the patient portal and Healow App. To access the patient portal, click here.

What happens if the results are positive?

If your child tests positive for an active COVID-19 infection, they will receive a customized care plan from a Village Pediatrics provider. If your child receives a positive result, we recommend that all household members get tested as well. Household members will need to follow the same requirements listed above.
